To determine the molar mass of H2SO4 the atomic mass of each of the elements in the formula must be obtained from the periodic table. The atomic masses are;

H 1.01 u

S 32.0 u

O 16.0 u

Since there are 2 hydrogen atoms and 4 oxygen atoms in the formula the molecular mass is;

H 2 x 1.01 u = 2.02 u

S 1 x 32.0 u = 32.0 u

O 4 x 16.0 u = 64.0 u

Total = 98.0 g­mol-1
