• Grades are posted as are the Grade Predictions. I will discuss both in class today. The Exam III average is 53 and the current class average is 64%.

  • PS10 and PS11 are now available on your Personal Page. Watchout for some crossovers for when particular problems in each of these problem sets are due. PS12 will be coming soon.

  • I have updated the PS9Feedback link to include all of your PS9 responses. Answers to all of the PS9 problems are also posted on your Personal Problem Set Page.

  • ACA22 and BCE22 are now available on your Personal Page. You will need a calculator for the ACA. Both the ACA are due on Thursday, November 9, 2017 by 3:30 pm. You might consider doing the ACA prior to Exam III.

  • Sample Exam #3 is located in Week 11 on your Personal Assignment Page. You are not responsible for Q1d, Q9 or Q13 on Exam III from 2000.You are not responsible for Q6, Q7, 8b, 8d, 8e(ii), 8e(iii) or Q8f on Exam III from 2002. Do not forget to review those questions on Exam II that we had omitted because we had not covered those questions when we did our Exam II.

  • I have posted some links to DCI answers that should help for PS9 problems on your Personal Problem Set page in the PS9 problem links. I have extended the due date for the last three problems on PS9 to Tuesday, November 7, 2018 at 11:59 pm. However I have provided some resources for you to use to help you figure out these kind of problems. Also I have provided some links to how to write electron configurations, which I will discuss on Tuesday. PS9 will be covered on the third exam as will the 'simple' electron configurations linked on the Problem Set page. I will cover all of these in class on Tuesday, but you can prepare yourself on the Problem Set page.

  • Here is an Mid-semester Supplemental Instruction Student Feedback Survey. Maci and Rebecca would like you to complete this survey to provide feedback for their efforts.

  • PS9 is now available on your Peersonal Page.

  • Here is an interesting article written by another college professor, looking back when she was a student.

  • Average for Exam II was 54 (ish). The overall class average is 62%.

  • Question 8 on Exam II did not have a correct answer....BAD! Dr. Gelder. We will deal with that when we get back together next week. Any suggestions?

  • Cell phones are sapping your cognitive ability!!!

  • Exam 1 average is 61!!! The class average right now (four PS, 1 LB and 1 EX) is 68%!! Grades should be posted before class. I will be happy to meet with any student who would like to discuss their current position in the class.

  • Office Hours in the Academic Development Center: Maci's are Mondays at 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Rebecca's is there on Thursdays at 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm.

  • Here is the SI schedule as of Wednesday, August 30, 2017. Since the only SI sessions on Wednesday begin at 6:00 pm, let's try to start the HELP Session at 5:00 pm today in PS141, instead of 5:30 pm. Office Hours for Maci and Rebecca will be available in the next day or so.

  • If you missed any classes, checkout the class video page, accessible from your Personal Page. The link is in the right/main frame near the top of the page.

  • The first thing you need to do to access materials for CHEM 1314 is to complete the Secret Identification (SID) form. Click on the SID#/Name link in the left frame and complete the form. Once you have entered an SID, and then you can go to your Personal page. You will receive an e-mail from Dr. G. indicating your SID has been accepted. On your Personal Page check out the Assignment Page (what is happening in class), and get your personal Problem Set #0 and #1 at the Problem Set link. Do not worry about the BCE or ACA, I'll discuss those in class on Tuesday. Review the course Syllabus and the General Information Page.

  • Remember laboratory meets this week, beginning Monday, August 21, 2017. By the 2nd week of classes (Monday labs), or the 3rd week (Tuesday - Friday Labs) you will be expected to wear safety goggles all the time you are in laboratory. A graduate student will visit your laboratory to sell inexpensive safety googles.

Follow the directions on the student's access card to get to the www.masteringchemistry.com website and use this COURSE ID to register: MCGELDER48964.

  • One thing I may forget to emphasize in class is that four or more laboratory classes missed will result in an automatic 'F' in the course.

  • Supplemental Instruction facilitators for Fall 2017 are Maci Petrini (maci.petrini@okstate.edu), and Rebecca Powers (repower@okstate.edu). Please complete the Doodle Poll (https://doodle.com/poll/x96uyb6v2q4gsmmh) to help the SI leaders setup SI session times. Complete by noon on Thursday, August 24, 2017. Here is a description of SI and how it works. More information.

  • Here are the books that you should have this semester. CHEM 1314 Laboratory Manual 2017 - 2018, During Class Inventions and Computer Lab Activities 3rd Edition, and Tro CHEMISTRY: A Molecular Approach (4th Edition).

  • SAFETY, SAFETY, SAFETY.....remember all the safety rules that were discussed during the first week of classes. If you are not dressed appropriately you are likely to be told to return home to change. A missed laboratory is recorded as a 0. Be careful!

  • Here is a cool Periodic Table with lots of video that I will use in class. This site will help you do PS1.1. NOTE: You will not be able to access this page if you are off campus. It will only work when you are using a campus IP address.
