Pre-Lecture Exploration are animations or video demonstrations that are to be viewed prior to a particular lecture. These materials are intended to get you thinking about the main ideas to be discussed in lecture. I'd like you to view the animation or video and then answer as many of the questions as you are able. If a question is not clear, or you can not answer the question just indicate that in the input field. As other students answer I may modify the questions to make them more focused. I may even add questions based on an initial review of the responses.

My goal in using these explorations will be to help us focus on misconceptions of the concept. So the PLEs are NOT GRADED! I will not be judging you on the right or wrong answer. So your complete responses to the questions are very important. If you have a misconception, or do not understand an aspect of the animation, and I get that information from your answers to the questions, I will be better able to address the issue(s) when I cover the material in lecture.

While using these materials is not required, I will keep track of students who are answering the questions. Participating will be worth one or more Problem Sets. How many points that turns out to be will be discussed during the semester. Please be sure your responses to the questions are reasoned and thoughtful. I will not grade the correctness of your responses, so do not worry about whether your answer is right or wrong. What is important is your answer is based on your knowledge and understanding of the principles involved.

You will need the MacroMedia ShockWave Plug-In to view these PLEs. Go to the Plug-Ins link to get the MacroMedia Plug-In.

The Expert's response contain an expert's answer to each of the questions. I recommend that if the expert's response is available that you not review it until AFTER you have attempted to answer the questions yourself.
