Oklahoma State University

This is ACA # 4. It is OK to use your textbook or lecture notes from class, but if you can answers the questions without it that is OK too.

Do not press the RETURN or ENTER key while you are answering these questions. Your browser will interpret either the same as clicking on the Submit key.

Answer all of the questions below. If you do not know an answer enter CNA. However, it will help me the most if you answer each question with your best intuition/idea about what would be a reasonable answer.

The ACA must be completed by Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at midnight. It will not count towards your ACA total.

In this ACA we will explore a simulation that allows the mesurement of some properties of matter. This simulation was created by PhET Project at the University of Colorado-Boulder. Click here to open the simulation. Click on the link, open the simulation and re-size the window so you can see the simulation and the ACA. In the upper right corner click on the Mystery option.

1. In the Mystery Option are five labeled cubes. Complete the Table I below

Block

Mass (kg)

Volume (L)

A

B

C

D

E

Table I.

2. Determine the density of each of the block and enter the value in Table II.

Table I.I

3. In the upper right corner select the Custom Option. In the upper left corner select the MyBlock option. Describe what happens to the block in each of the following conditions:

Condition I : The mass of the block is high and the volume of the block is low.

Indicate the density of your block. kg/L

Condition II : The mass of the block in kg is equal to the volume of the block in L.

Indicate the density of your block. kg/L

Condition III : The mass of the block is low and the volume of the block is high.

Indicate the density of your block. kg/L

4. Is there anything about the questions that you feel you do not understand? List your concerns/questions.

5. If there is one question you would like to have answered in lecture, what would that question be?
