Some Density Problems
Students at the Help! Session last night
requested some additional density problems. Here is what I found;
Density Question #1:
    What is the volume of a 898 kilogram piece
    of iron metal (density is 7.75 g mL-1)? How long
    would a piece of iron have to be if the base is 1.50 cm2?
Density Question #2:
    A packing material has a density of 12.8 kg
    m-3. How many grams of the material are needed to
    fill a volume of 3.00 ft3 ?
Density Question #3:
    Which of the following items would be the
    heaviest?

        a) a 100 pound bag of dog food;
        b) a 15 gallon plastic container of
        water (assume the container's mass is negligible);
        c) a 3.0 L container of mercury (density
        = 13.6 g mL-1).

Density Question #4:
    Mercury is shipped in containers holding 76
    pounds of mercury. Whould such a container fit into a wooden
    box which has inside dimensions of 8.0 inches by 4.0 inches
    by 4.0 inches?
