  • The PLE for Monday's class is ready.

  • There have been some problems with the campus network this weekend because of the WORM that is attacking MicroSoft SQL servers. Our server is not a Microsoft SQL server, but the impact may be wider. So if you have problems accessing your Personal Page, hang in their, or send me a message.

  • The answers to PS1 and PS3 (the InClass Exercise in class on Friday, January 24th) along with how each PS was graded can be found at your Personal Web page. Dr. G graded PS3 so when you get it back, after reviewing the answers and the grading memo, if you have questions bring your PS by my office. For PS1 if you have questions about your score review the answers and the grading memo. If you still have questions talk to your TA. Still not satisfied? Then drop by and talk to me.

  • After Friday's class you should be able to do PS2.1 - PS2.3.

  • We will begin Chapter 11 in lecture on Friday, January 24th. When you turn-in the Review Problem Set and PS#1 be sure to get a copy of next week's laboratory (see What's up in lab on your personal page) and PS#2. If you do not get a copy of these two documents you can get them at your personal web page.

  • A few students are having some problems with the PLE. The message you receive is " There is a major problem. The PLE database does not recognize you. Your responses have been recorded into a SCRATCH database. Note the time you did this PLE and Contact Dr. Gelder." Inorder to diagnose this problem I need to better understand what you were doing at the time. So if you get this message send me an e-mail. I'm saving the responses to a SCRATCH file but there are NO names on the responses. How to avoid this problem?! Before doing the a PLE be absolutely sure that you see your name on your Personal web Page at the top of the left hand frame, and you see your name in the PLE form itself. If either are missing DO NOT DO THE PLE until you have re-logged in to your Personal Web page. The issue has to do with how much time you are on your personal web page and nothing is happening. If you have been logged on to your personal web page for a while, and done nothing it may have timed out, so it no longer knows who you are. Be careful before doing the PLE!

  • Beginning with PLE3 no more Dr. Nice-Guy...not done before lecture...I will not count it as complete.

  • This semester I want to try using personal web pages. To take advantage of this new feature you will have to give me a Secret Identification number or name. Go to the SID#/Name link in the left frame and complete the information requested. After you have given me your SID information you will be able to access your own personal CHEM 1515 Web page through the Personal Page. The personal page will have information specifically associated with you: grades, PLE's, homework, exams, plus other way cool stuff. So get your SID set up now!
      • Since this is the FIRST time I have tried to use the Personal Web Page concept there are going to be problems. You must e-mail me, or contact me when you have problems so I can solve them quickly. Hang in there, it is going to be FUN! this semester.
  • You will need your individualize copy of the Review Problem Set before you go to Laboratory this week. After submitting your SID information go to your Personal Page and click on the Problem Set link. There you will be able to obtain your own Review Problem Set. If you have any questions contact Dr. G.
  • Here are this semester's laboratory sections. Be sure to bring your textbook and a calculator to laboratory this week! Yes! Labs are meeting this week (1/13/02 - 1/17/03).

  • Check out the link to the web site for our textbook (BLB). The link is near the top of the left frame on our web site. Clicking on the link will take you to a page with an image of our textbook. Near the top of the page is a dropdown menu listing the Chapters in the text. Select a chapter and a page will be loaded for that chapter that contains links to resources. If you would like some practice problems try the Problem Soving Center. When the Problem Center page is load scroll down to the red button under flexible questions. Select the Homework link. This will generate a set of questions from the chapter. You will need a calculator.

  • Here is a very nice Periodic Table that contains lots of physical properties and chemical properties for the elements.
