• I have posted the HELP! page for PS5 on your Problem Set Page. You may have until before class on Tuesday (3:30 pm, February 15, 2011) to enter your answers on the HELP! page. So the HELP! answers, Connect Homework and LearnSmart are all due before class on February 15, 2011.
  
  
  
  
  
• Laboratory for the week of February 14, 2011, is the continuation of Survival Organic Chemistry. There is no prelab, however I receommend you checkout alkenes and alynes in your textbook. That way when covering geometric isomers and nomenclature you know what kinds of questions to ask. If you do not have the remaining pages remember the original lab experiment is located in Week 3 of your Personal Page. This portion of Survival Organic will appear on Exam 2.
  
  
  
  
• I have posted a Connect Problem Set for Chapter 13 Part 1. Question 6 requires you to do a volume/volume calculation. Be careful with this calculation you can not assume that mixing volumes that the volumes are additive. Mass is alway additive, but not volumes. Question 8 be careful with significant figures and rounding. The answer appears to be very particular. Let me know if any other issue arise when doing these problems.

• Exam I scores are now posted (check your Personal Page). The average was 62, so that is VERY good!! The highest student(s) will be recognized in class with some swag. Please note the your individual points may change up or down after I look closer at the exams and their grades. It is very late and I need rest, so I will begin to look more closely at all of the exams on Tuesday. Be sure to do the BCEs for class, and I will have a Connect assignment posted later today. You guys did great on the exam....way to go!!
  
  
  
  
• CHEM 1515 Exam I is now scheduled for Monday, February 7, 2011 beginning at 5:30 pm. if you are in Lab sections 7 - 9 go to ANSI 123, if you are in lab sections 10, 11 or 13 go to NRC 106 to take your exam. I have also posted an additional sample exam for you to use for studying on your Personal Page. Go there to find the link to the new exam. I will be in my office to answer questions on Monday. Although I am out of town I will also try to answer questions via e-mail. However, I am working all day and into the evening on Saturday and almost all day on Sunday.
  
  
  
  
  
• The podcasts should be working now. Check the podcast link in the left frame and follow those instructions to access additional video materials that may be helpful. Have you already followed the information on the podcast link on the CHEM 1515 Web Site to download the podcasts? Did you do that before Monday of this week? If so you will need to delete the current podcast within iTunes and then reinstall the CHEM 1515 SP2011 by following the directions outlined on the podcast link on our web site. There was an error in the code that I fixed on Monday so everything works properly now.

• Grades from Problem Sets: I will use the responses that are submitted on the HELP! link on the Problem Set page to score 6 points on each Problem Set (RPS, PS#1, PS#2...). I will score 3 points from the LearnSmart based on completion (the more you do the more points, up to 3, you earn). I will score 3 points from Connect, again the more you do the more points, up to 3, you can earn. For the RPS and PS#1 for Connect points will be earned based primarily on completion.
  
  
  
  
  
• The first thing you need to do to access materials for this class is to complete the Secret Identification (SID) form. Click on the SID#/Name link in the left frame and complete the form. You will receive an e-mail from Dr. G. indicating your SID has been accepted. Once you have entered an SID, fill out the additional form for some extra credit, and then you can go to your Personal page. On your Personal Page check out the Assignment Page (what is happening in class), and get your personal Review Problem Set.
