  • PLE#16 is ready. You will need the Shockwave plugin from MacroMedia (see the Plugin link on the CHEM 1314 web site) to view the animation with this PLE. Remember the Library computers will not support this plug-in. Try the 4th floor of the Classroom Building. E-mail me if you have questions.
  • Students in Sections 10, 17, 18 and 20 have a laboratory assignment this week. Go to your assignment page on your personal page to see what you must do for laboratory. Students in Sections 11 - 16 and 19 do not have laboratory this week. However I strongly advise you to do the laboratory simulaton. Check your personal asignment page for details.
  • Remember everyone is expected to attend Monday classes on Wednesday, October 1, 2003.
  • Thanks to Ann Staiger for finding an error on PS6.2. Some of you will have PS6.2a that reads funky...the compound is missing from the statement of the problem. To get the correct wording (with a compound) go to your personal page. The correct wording will be on the main page. Or go and re-print your PS6.
  • We completed Chapter 4 today...so you should now be able to do PS6.1 - PS6.8. Please double check your PS6 on your personal page. One of the students in our class found several errors in the balanced equation in that problem. I've fixed it on your problem set so double check it. The correct equation is,
  • K2Cr2O7(aq)+ 6Fe(NO3)2(aq) + 14HNO3(aq) ---> 2Cr(NO3)3(aq) + 6Fe(NO3)3(aq) + 7H2O(l) + 2KNO3(aq)

  • Found in ES317 after class on Wednesday: 1 calculator, 1 pair of sun glasses and 1 carabiener. Claim in my office or class on Friday.

  • I've updated grades with what the TA's had given me as of today. I've also added attendence information for ICE#1, 4, 6 and 7. These were InClass exercises that I collected. PS#18 has a value based up on the number of ICE's I have for you. The score was determined by multiplying the number of ICE's that I have times 3. Below is a table summarizing the average grades of students who completed 4, 3, 2 or 1 of ICE activities. One possible conclusion to reach is that class attendence does effect your exam grade. FYI.
  • ICE's Completed

    3

    53

  • PS5.4, PS5.6, and PS5.8 please remember to balance the equations.

  • PS#5 is available. Get it at the Problem Set link on your Personal Web page.

  • With 10 sections entered the exam average is 56 and the high score is a 98. You will get your exams back in laboratory beginning Thursday, September 11th. When your TA returns your exam look it over. If you have any questions and would like us to re-grade a question on your exam write a brief note and return the exam to your TA. We will look at the exam in our next staff meeting. If you are satisfied with your exam you may keep it. After you take the exam from your lab room I will NOT change the grade!
  • Be sure to check what you must complete BEFORE attending laboratory this week. Go to your Assignment Page.
  • Your TA's e-mail address is below.

  • Check out the link to the web site for our textbook (BLB). The link is near the top of the left frame on our web site. Clicking on the link will take you to a page with an image of our textbook. Near the top of the page is a dropdown menu listing the Chapters in the text. Select a chapter and a page will be loaded for that chapter that contains links to resources. If you would like some practice problems try the Problem Soving Center. When the Problem Center page is load scroll down to the red button under flexible questions. Select the Homework link. This will generate a set of questions from the chapter. You will need a calculator.

  • Here is a very nice Periodic Table that contains lots of physical properties and chemical properties for the elements.
