  • I have posted final grades to the University. I will update all the grades on your Personal Page in the next day or so. Please be sure that all your grades are correct. Your Exam IV and Final Exam are available in my office and you can pick them up anytime that you come by my office next semester. If you have any questions about your final grade come by, or e-mail.

  • Grades are posted. PLEASE NOTE: Esla will be grading the Gas Law Web Lab today and scores will be posted Friday am. Monday sections (15 and 24) Esla will be grading your Calorimetry labs today also. Those scores will be posted Friday. The course percent DOES NOT INCLUDE DROPPED LABS OR HOMEWORK. So the percent you have guarantees that grade. When I drop labs and homework the change will be a few percent (UP!). You can calculate your grade by determining your average (%) lab (* 150) and average (%) homework(*200) then add your five exams. Also NOTE: There is no PS15, PS22 or PS23 this semester, so do not worry that these entries are blank.

  • CHEM 1314 final exam is Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at noon to 1:50 pm in the same room your 1st and 3rd exam. Check you Personal Page for the correct room.

  • The average on exam 3 is 56. The high score was a 94...and it is a first offender!! CONGRATULATIONS! to Jenny Winters...lots of swag in class on Thursday...and you'll be on video for all your friends and family. Grades posted by 2:00 am.

  • I've added some sample problems on the video podcast for our class. See the information in the next item down about using the current version of iTunes for video podcasts. (Note you do not need a 5G iPod or a Mac to subscribe to the video podcasts.) If you do not have iTunes (which you need to subscribe to a podcast) on your computer checkout the Apple iTunes download web site.

  • Do you have iTunes (version 6)? Are you downloading any podcasts? Inquiring minds want to know...actually I do. To access the General Chemistry Fall 2005 Podcast, open iTunes and select Advance Menu Option. Pick the Subscribe to Podcast and enter the address http://introchem.chem.okstate.edu/rss.xml into the dialog box. This will subscribe you to the CHEM 1314 Video Podcast. You may select which videos you would like to download. Check out the videos on problem solving, they may help on your Problem Sets and Exams. I also have a sample exam discussion on the podcast. Checkout Sample Exam #3 Part 1 and Sample Exam #3 Part 2.

  • Exams are graded and the scores are posted. The high was 97. Takihiro Nago and Whitney Pruitt were repeat offenders. CONGRATULATIONS!! You rocked and rolled (on the average) with a class average of 64. WAY TOO GO!!! More swag for Takihiro and Whitney at the beginning of class. NOTE: I am still waiting for some grades from the TAs so do not stress if some of your PS or lab scores are not posted. I will included the PLE/ACA PS in the next day or so.

  • Scores are now posted on your Personal Page. Go to the My Course Grades Link in the left frame on your Personal Page. I will be posting problem set and laboratory scores by Friday. The average for Exam I is 60...which is very good! Three students received scores of 99!! (Unfortunately no 100's this time). Very cool. These students will receive some swag at the beginning of class on Thursday!!

  • WANT SOME ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS TO PRACTICE IN PREPARATION FOR EXAM I? Check out the Student Access Kit in the Media Pak that was shrink-wrapped with your textbook. Follow the instructions for registering that are provided in the Student Access Kit to logon to the Prentice Hall web site. When you are registered checkout the Practice Problems I and II. Also check out the a link to another 'older' web site for Brown, LeMay and Bursten which has even more problems to practice on. Click on the Jump to... dropdown menu list near the top of the web page. There are a set of more interesting problems at the second web site. HAVE FUN!!!

  • Remember for laboratory this week, no open-toed footwear, and no shorts. You will be expected to wear safety goggles all the time you are in laboratory.
  • Here are some quick responses to the last question on ACA#4 (If you could ask one question...).
  • Here are some quick responses to the last question on ACA#2 (If you could ask one question...).
  • The video for both class meetings are posted on the Assignment Page. Just click on the class date on the Week 1 Page. They are QuickTime format. If you have any problems viewing the video try using the Mac's in PS102. Remember you will need you Student ID to swipe to gain access to the room, and you must know your PRISM password.
  • The first thing you need to do to access materials for this class is to complete the Secret Identification (SID) form. Click on the SID#/Name link in the left frame and complete the form. You will receive an e-mail from Dr. G. indicating your SID has been accepted. Once you have entered an SID, fill out the additional form for some extra credit, and then you can go to your Personal page. On your Personal Page check out the Assignment Page, and get your personal Problem Set #1. Do not worry about the PLE or ACA, I'll discuss those in class on Tuesday.

  • If you have not yet purchased your textbook (and even if you have) you might consider whether you would prefer an electronic version of the textbook rather than a hard copy version. This option may work for some of you. The catch? It is priced approximately half of the cost of the hard copy version of the textbook. The electronic version of Brown, LeMay and Bursten is now available. You can also check the OSU Bookstore web site for details.

Check out the link to the web site for our textbook (BLB). The link is near the top of the left frame on our web site. Clicking on the link will take you to a page with an image of our textbook. Near the top of the page is a dropdown menu listing the Chapters in the text. Select a chapter and a page will be loaded for that chapter that contains links to resources. If you would like some practice problems try the Problem Solving Center. When the Problem Center page is loaded scroll down to the red button under flexible questions. Select the Homework link. This will generate a set of questions from the chapter. You will need a calculator.

Here is a very nice Periodic Table that contains lots of physical properties and chemical properties for the elements.
