  • The PLE for Wednesday, March 26th is ready.

  • HELP Session. Tuesday, March 25th at 7:00 pm in PS141.

  • This week in laboratory we are doing Experiment #12: Preparation of Aspirin and Oil of Wintergreen. This is a fun experiment...you get to make aspirin! Check out the pre-lab.

  • I've got some HELP for PS9 available. Check it out.

  • Kacey discovered an error in the anwsers to 15.13 in our textbook. The answers should be a) K = 8.93: b) K = .0125 c) K = 79.7

  • All grades are now available. If there is anything funky (the computer says you did not take the exam and you know you did...do not panic!) contact Dr. G early Thursday afternoon.

  • The class average on Exam II is 56. A few points down from our first exam average...so not too bad! We have a tie for the highest exam. Stephen Tidwell and Barkley Puitt both earned 95's....CONGRATULATIONS Steve and Barkley! Lots of swag on Friday.

  • The overall course average is 64%. This is most excellent. The average I would like at the end of the semester is 65%. We're at 64% and we have not dropped any PSs or labs. So on the average everyone is doing great.

  • This week in laboratory M, W and F students will do a different activity compared to the T and R students. Please check your Personal Web Page What's Up in Lab to see exactly what you are doing. I have posted information for the M - W sections. I will post the info for the R and F sections after they meet. I distributed the laboratory experiments for next week in lecture on wednesday, February 26th. If you did not get a copy check your Personal Web Page What's Up in Lab link. You can also check the Syllabus link on our main page.
  • New grades are posted on your personal web page. A few TAs have reported grades for the Freezing point lab, and one TA has submitted scores for the cation Qualitative Analysis. Check with your TA if you believe any scores are not recorded correctly. I think all the corrections to Exam I have been made. If not let me and your TA know.

  • The class average on this exam was 60!!!!! The highest grade was a 96 by Todd Mollet! CONGRATULATIONS Todd! Way to go. Lots of swag on Friday. I have some new stuff from my trip to Washington! I'm working on the grades database and the software for the personal page. So another 30 minutes and grades will be up.

  • A few students are having some problems with the PLE. The message you receive is " There is a major problem. The PLE database does not recognize you. Your responses have been recorded into a SCRATCH database. Note the time you did this PLE and Contact Dr. Gelder." Inorder to diagnose this problem I need to better understand what you were doing at the time. So if you get this message send me an e-mail. I'm saving the responses to a SCRATCH file but there are NO names on the responses. How to avoid this problem?! Before doing the a PLE be absolutely sure that you see your name on your Personal web Page at the top of the left hand frame, and you see your name in the PLE form itself. If either are missing DO NOT DO THE PLE until you have re-logged in to your Personal Web page. The issue has to do with how much time you are on your personal web page and nothing is happening. If you have been logged on to your personal web page for a while, and done nothing it may have timed out, so it no longer knows who you are. Be careful before doing the PLE!

  • This semester I want to try using personal web pages. To take advantage of this new feature you will have to give me a Secret Identification number or name. Go to the SID#/Name link in the left frame and complete the information requested. After you have given me your SID information you will be able to access your own personal CHEM 1515 Web page through the Personal Page. The personal page will have information specifically associated with you: grades, PLE's, homework, exams, plus other way cool stuff. So get your SID set up now!
      • Since this is the FIRST time I have tried to use the Personal Web Page concept there are going to be problems. You must e-mail me, or contact me when you have problems so I can solve them quickly. Hang in there, it is going to be FUN! this semester.
  • Here are this semester's laboratory sections.

  • Check out the link to the web site for our textbook (BLB). The link is near the top of the left frame on our web site. Clicking on the link will take you to a page with an image of our textbook. Near the top of the page is a dropdown menu listing the Chapters in the text. Select a chapter and a page will be loaded for that chapter that contains links to resources. If you would like some practice problems try the Problem Soving Center. When the Problem Center page is load scroll down to the red button under flexible questions. Select the Homework link. This will generate a set of questions from the chapter. You will need a calculator.

  • Here is a very nice Periodic Table that contains lots of physical properties and chemical properties for the elements.
