Do
you know your FINAL schedule?
The
PLE for Wednesday is ready.
HELP
Session, Wednesday, April 23rd at 7:30 pm in PS101.
We
agreed at the end of class today to postpone PS13 until Friday, April 25th.
The
Pre-Lab activity for Experiment #10: Oxidation-Reduction is now ready. Go
to the What's Up in Laboratory on your Personal web page. This activity must
be completed before going to laboratory. I recommend you print the activity
so you can use it in laboratory. This activity requires you use a Flash animation.
Remember the computers in the Library do not play Flash animations. Try the
computers on the 4th floor of the Classroom Building. If you are doing the
activity on your computer and the animation does not load you may have to
go to www.macromedia.com and download the
Flash 6 plug-in. If you have any problems let me know.
You
should be able to do PS13.1 and some of PS13.2 after Friday's lecture.
If
you are going home for Easter be safe and have a nice weekend.
After
today's class you should be able to do PS13.1 where the solution is acidic.
we'll talk about basic solutions on Friday.
Check
out the What's Up In Laboratory link on your Personal Web page. I have prepared
replacement Pre-Laboratory questions for Experiment #8.
Grades
are up. You guys kicked butt on this exam!!! I have an average of 73 points
and a high score of 98!! CONGRATULATIONS to Kaori Uekusa! Way to go!! Lots
of swag on Friday!!! Check out how you did! Exams will be returned in laboratory.
This
week in laboratory we are doing Experiment #9: Potentiometric Determination
of an Equilibrium Constant! Check out the pre-lab. Also
check What's up in Laboratory on your personal web page there are a few of
the pre-lab questions that you will not have to do.
The
overall course average is 64%. This is most excellent. The average I would
like at the end of the semester is 65%. We're at 64% and we have not dropped
any PSs or labs. So on the average everyone is doing great.
A few students are having some problems with
the PLE. The message you receive is " There is a major problem. The PLE
database does not recognize you. Your responses have been recorded into a
SCRATCH database. Note the time you did this PLE and Contact Dr. Gelder."
Inorder to diagnose this problem I need to better understand what you were
doing at the time. So if you get this message send me an e-mail. I'm saving
the responses to a SCRATCH file but there are NO names on the responses. How
to avoid this problem?! Before doing the a PLE be absolutely sure that you
see your name on your Personal web Page at the top of the left hand frame,
and you see your name in the PLE form itself. If either are missing DO NOT
DO THE PLE until you have re-logged in to your Personal Web page. The issue
has to do with how much time you are on your personal web page and nothing
is happening. If you have been logged on to your personal web page for a while,
and done nothing it may have timed out, so it no longer knows who you are.
Be careful before doing the PLE!
This semester I want to try using personal
web pages. To take advantage of this new feature you will have to give me
a Secret Identification number or name. Go to the SID#/Name link in the left
frame and complete the information requested. After you have given me your
SID information you will be able to access your own personal CHEM 1515 Web
page through the Personal Page. The personal page will have information specifically
associated with you: grades, PLE's, homework, exams, plus other way cool stuff.
So get your SID set up now!

Since this is the FIRST time I have tried
to use the Personal Web Page concept there are going to be problems. You
must e-mail me, or contact me when you have problems so I can solve them
quickly. Hang in there, it is going to be FUN! this semester.
